Odeon will reopen 10 of its cinemas next week, including one of its Manchester sites.

The cinema group has implemented new safety measures ahead of its relaunch, as it prepares to open its Trafford Centre cinema on July 4.

Tickets go on sale today for a range of big-screen hits including 1917 and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

The number of seats sold for each screening will be limited, with guaranteed empty seats between guests to ensure social distancing.

Screen times will also be staggered to manage crowds passing through the venues, and each cinema has newly-serviced air conditioning to deliver fresh air into all screens.

Cinema-goers will be able to purchase a range of 'Grab and go' pre-packaged snacks, including bottled drinks, Butterkist popcorn and a bag of sweets.

Ticket checks and till payments will be contactless, with online booking available.

Increased cleaning schedules and hand sanitiser stations will all be in place too.

Odeon has worked with the UK Cinema Association and the government to create a safe environment for film-lovers.

The Odeon in Rochdale is set to reopen on July 13, followed by Great Northern in the city centre on July 16 - by that date, the cinema giant hopes to have a further 88 UK cinemas open again.

Carol Welch, managing director UK and Ireland said: "We are excited to confirm that from 4 July, our UK cinemas will begin reopening.

"We’ve carefully planned every step of our guest journey and put safety measures in place that will enable our highly trained colleagues to provide a controlled and safer cinema experience for all our guests.

"New measures include social distancing in our auditoriums and foyers, additional cleaning regimes, and a request to book tickets online prior to arrival.

"We would like to thank our colleagues and guests for their patience during this period, and we can’t wait to welcome guests back to big screen entertainment and a safer cinema experience."

The first films to be screened at Odeon cinemas will be a mix of recent and remastered classics, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Little Women, The Greatest Showman, Bad Boys For Life, Dirty Dancing and Onward.

Tickets can be purchased online from today at odeon.co.uk.
