Brazil Covid-19 Investigation: 'President's approach was extremely ideological'

Anthony Pereira, Professor in the Brazil Institute at King's College London, joins France 24 following the fallout of a Brazilian Senate investigation recommending President Jair Bolsonaro be indicted on various criminal charges for allegedly bungling Brazil’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 'It's pretty clear, Professor Pereira affirms, 'that (the report) holds Bolsonaro accountable and about 70 other people.' But as Bolsonaro has the support of his personally appointed Attorney General Augusto Aras, and has numerous allies in Congress, it is highly unlikely that the Brazilian president will ever face prosecution or impeachment. 'The real importance of the report, though,' Professor Pereira surmises, is that 'it's really trying to set the historical record straight and setting the political record straight for an accounting.'
