A body has been found on a beach in Cornwall following the search for a missing woman, police have confirmed. Officers received a call during the early hours of Monday morning (September 26) raising concern for the welfare of a woman who had gone missing.

The woman in her 60s was reported missing from her home in Helston. Police, coastguards and the RNLI then launched an investigation to locate the missing woman, conducting searches in the area of the home and at Porthallow Beach. Ambulance crews, Cornwall Air Ambulance and firefighters were also said to have attended.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has now confirmed a body was found in the water at around 10am yesterday. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The spokesman said: "Police were called in the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday 26th September) following concern for the welfare of a woman in her 60s who was missing from her home address in the Helston area. Police searches led officers to Porthallow Beach and localised searches have taken place, along with support from HM Coastguard and the RNLI.

"Sadly, at around 10am yesterday morning, a body was found in the water and, shortly after, declared deceased. This death is not being treated as suspicious and next of kin have been made aware of this development. A file is to be prepared for the coroner."
