Police and panicked parents rushed to a sports bar last night after rumours that someone had been stabbed during a kids' disco. The under 18s events was taking place at The Pitch sports bar in St Dennis last night.

Someone was found to be in possession of a knife and reports on social media caused panic among parents. A spokesperson for The Pitch bar said that posts on Facebook caused parents to 'flock' to the venue, stopping the police from accessing the disco.

They also confirmed that no one was stabbed or harmed during the incident.

In a statement, they said: "After tonight's events we can say and the police have signed off to say the clubhouse was more than equipped to deal with the under 18s tonight. The precautions, systems and professional staff in place were actually classed as excessive but better to be over than under equipped!

"The police advised over the phone to clear everyone into open space which is what we done and confirmed this is the action to be taken when an incident occurs. The issues began with Facebook status panicking people which ultimately lead to parents flocking (which yes is your right when you hear rumours) stopping the police from accessing the premises to help.

"No one could have predicted someone driving onto the premises with a knife which was immediately disarmed from the person in question. This was a parent that drove their child onto the premises to do this. No one has been stabbed or harmed this evening.

"Ultimately the business we are in, there could be trouble anytime we open the doors, every other establishment within the village would have experienced. If anyone wants anymore info u are welcome to come down or contact the police direct."

The representative also slammed the person who brought the knife for putting other children, staff, volunteers, parents and customers at risk. They told CornwallLive: "If it wasn't for the bravery of Jake Milford and Logan Chadwick disarming the person, God knows what could have happened! Heroes".

We have contacted Devon and Cornwall Police for more information, however the force is unable to comment until Monday.
