Charles was in Brixton, south London, for an event with the Prince's Trust on Thursday.

As he left a branch of NatWest bank, he was greeted by crowds of people and one man asked him: "Prince Charles, how is your mother?"

Charles, 72, gave the man a pat on the arm and appeared to say: "She's alright, thank you".

The Queen, 95, has been under doctors' orders to rest for almost a month.

She spent a night in hospital after what were described as "preliminary investigations" on 20 October.

Just days later, however, she was conducting business virtually, including meetings with the ambassador from the Republic of Korea, Gunn Kim; and separately, the ambassador from the Swiss Confederation, Markus Leitner.

On Wednesday afternoon, she conducted a Privy Council meeting by video, with ministers including Lord President of the Council Jacob Rees-Mogg and Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi.

According to Buckingham Palace, it is the Queen's "firm intention" to be at the Remembrance Sunday event at London's Cenotaph, but her attendance has not yet been confirmed.

She will not be at the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday evening at the Royal Albert Hall.

Instead, the event will be led by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Earl and Countess of Wessex, and the Princess Royal.
