A councillor has appeared in court charged with making offensive and sectarian remarks.

Russell Robertson, 59, is accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at his Gartcosh home on September 2.

The SNP councillor and another man, David Hara, 28, allegedly shouted, swore and "made offensive and sectarian remarks".

The charge is said to be aggravated by religious prejudice.

Robertson and Hara, both from the same address in Gartcosh, Lanarkshire, appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday.

Lawyer Michael O'Neil represented both men who denied the charge.

A trial was set for February next year and sheriff Moira MacKenzie ordained Robertson to appear and bailed Hara.
