Chinese scientists say people smoked cannabis 2,500 years ago

Incense burners were used for smoking cannabis 2,500 years ago, scientists from Beijing announced saying they discovered the earliest evidence of marijuana use by people. The burners, found in the Altai Mountains on the China-Russia border, contained burnt stones and black marks from cannabis plants. The study, jointly conducted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History, was able to confirm the use of cannabis by analysing the chemical compounds found in the burners.
