Egypt struggles to combat scourge of violence against women
In 2017, a report from the Thomson Foundation named the Egyptian capital Cairo as the world's most dangerous city to be a woman. Some 99 percent of female residents there report having been sexually harassed. Egyptian women also struggle to access healthcare, education and the labour market. For a long time, it was taboo to even discuss these topics. But that was until the rise of a new generation of feminist activists, who are using the internet and social media to denounce sexual violence and support victims. Our correspondents report.
