Probation service to be renationalised

The supervision of all offenders in England and Wales is going back to the public sector after a part-privatisation system, introduced by former justice secretary Chris Grayling, was heavily criticised by MPs and watchdogs. Current Justice Secretary David Gauke said that the best way forward for the probation system “is to have a unified model when it comes to offender management”. Mr Gauke added that these changes come after offender rates failed to fall as much as the government had anticipated.
