Shark tangled in fishing wire rescued on New Zealand beach

A beleaguered shark was rescued by bystanders from a beach west of Auckland, New Zealand, after becoming entangled in a fishing line, witnesses said. Fisherman Joshua Grimshaw told Storyful that he helped to free the small shark after it was spotted in trouble in Muriwai Beach. This footage, said to have been shot on November 10, shows Grimshaw dragging the shark back to sea, while an onlooker is heard saying, “Save the shark!” Grimshaw told Storyful, “Originally, I thought it wouldn’t make it as it wasn’t moving at all, but to my surprise it swam off quickly which was fantastic.” Credit: Joshua Grimshaw via Storyful
