Messages of grief and promises for protection for Muslims have been shared worldwide following the deadly mosque terrorist attack in New Zealand.

Forty-nine people have been confirmed dead and dozens more are wounded after mass shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, prompting police presences at places of worship across the globe.

At least one gunman opened fire on worshippers in the attacks in Christchurch on Friday.

The suspect has been named in media reports as 28-year-old Australian man Brenton Tarrant.

A man has been charged with murder. Forty-eight other people, including children, have been treated for gunshot wounds after what New Zealand’s PM said appeared to be a "terrorist attack” that was “well planned”.
