More than 20 people missing after boat sinks in Cambodia

About 20 people were reported missing Friday after a boat carrying more than 41 Chinese nationals sank off the coast of the Cambodian city of Sihanoukville (south).

The authorities of Sihanouk province have detailed that the incident took place around 10.30 a.m. (local time) and added that 18 people have been rescued, while 23 are still missing, according to the newspaper 'Reaksmei Kampuchea'.

They stressed that 16 police units and two boats were sent to the scene, but the causes of the incident are not yet known.

The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia has confirmed the incident, without commenting on possible victims, while stating that the ambassador, Wang Wentian, has activated the staff to contact the authorities for rescue operations, as reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
