Over the last week, there have been many odd sightings in Taunton.

Earlier this week, there was an alleged UFO sighting in the town, where "mysterious" lights could be seen from a local resident’s home.

In the end, it turned out to be a local school preparing for an end-of-term performance.

Yesterday (Thursday, July 7), Max Waller, who plays cricket for Somerset, noticed something very bizarre in the heart of the town centre.

Towards the end of Hammet Street, a local woman could be seen walking a banana on a lead while heading in the direction of Fore Street.

It is unclear why the woman was randomly walking through the town centre while walking the piece of fruit, but it is fair to say it was brave of her to do so considering how busy it was.

Waller posted the footage on Twitter.

He tweeted: “Only in Taunton can you walk a banana on a lead and all seems normal!”

With more than 100 likes, many people appeared to have seen the funny side of the matter.

One Twitter user replied: “What’s the issue? She obviously had to split.”

Another tweeted: “The apple didn’t want to go out obviously!”

Whilst another user tweeted: “And they say Bridgwater is weird.”

In an amusing response to Somerset Live, Waller literally said “no comment on it,” as he was blown away by what he saw on a normal day in Taunton.

Waller and Somerset County Cricket are in action on Saturday when they face Derbyshire at The Cooper Associates County Ground for a chance to play in the Vitality Blast semi-final.

From UFOs to bananas on a lead, what next will the people of Taunton witness?
