Chelsea and Leeds United 'reach Raphinha agreement' with personal talks ongoing

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Leeds United's Raphinha. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who says the fee will rise to £65m, with the bulk to be paid immediately.

That claim comes on the back of a report from The Athletic, who said Chelsea had jumped ahead of Arsenal in the battle to sign the Leeds United winger. The Gunners were at the front of the queue last week after submitting the first formal offer, but Chelsea are now clear favourites for his signature.

It comes just hours after the Telegraph reported Chelsea were ‘seriously considering’ a bid for Raphinha, with things having seemingly moved quickly today. Thomas Tuchel is looking to revamp his attack this summer and are also in talks to sign Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling with Romelu Lukaku set to join Inter Milan.

Reports say Chelsea are confident of landing Sterling for a deal in the region £50m and are now looking to agree on a similar price for Raphinha. Chelsea are also able to offer Champions League football to the 25-year-old, which Arsenal cannot after missing out on the final day of the season.

Raphinha’s agent Deco spent time at Stamford Bridge during his playing days, which could’ve also given them the upper hand. Romano claims contract and personal talks between Chelsea and Raphinha's representatives are ongoing.

Barcelona have been Raphinha’s first choice destination throughout the summer, but with their financial troubles continuing to have an impact on how much they can spend, a move to the Premier League, and more specifically Chelsea, is looking increasingly likely. Raphinha is set to be Leeds’ second high-profile sale of the summer with Kalvin Phillips also on the verge of a £42m move to Manchester City.
