It was a tricky first season for Phil Neville as Inter Miami manager, with the side missing out on the MLS play-offs, and 10 players are being axed from the squad as a result.

The play-offs start on Saturday but Inter Miami will not be involved after finishing 11th in the table of the 14-team Eastern Conference.

The David Beckham-owned franchise brought in some recognisable names, with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Blaise Matuidi, Kieran Gibbs and Ryan Shawcross signing for the club, but they have not been able to make the difference as yet.

The Sun report that 10 players are to be axed from the squad ahead of next season, those players remain unnamed at this stage, although Higuain and Shawcross are set to stay, with one year left on each of their contracts.

Manager Neville was involved in a string of meetings over the future of his squad members, which the Sun reported as ‘brutal’ as tough decisions were made.

One player that will be involved next season is Harvey Neville, after the manager’s son impressed for Miami’s sister club Fort Lauderdale over the last season.

The 19-year-old right-back will be handed the chance to impress under his father with the first team.

Phil told the Sun: ‘He’s done well and although he has a lot of development to do, he is part of a group of eight to 10 players who we want to get involved with the MLS team.

‘He is only young. There are ups and downs and many challenges ahead but he just has to keep up his attitude.

‘We are a club which needs to produce its own players and we want to get this group on the pitch as soon as we can.’

Harvey was playing with David Beckham’s son Romeo at Fort Lauderdale but while the young Neville will step up to Inter Miami, Romeo will stay where he is for next season.
