Birmingham City are set to sign Jordan Graham, with the winger available on a free after leaving Gillingham.

The 26-year-old was one of the outstanding performers in League One last season, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists as Steve Evans’ side missed out on a play-off place.

With his contract expiring in the summer, the Gills did offer Graham a new deal but the wide man has turned it down as he assessed his options.

There has been plenty of interest in the former Wolves man, with Charlton known to be admirers, but London News Online have confirmed that Graham will join Blues.

That will be a real transfer coup for boss Lee Bowyer, as Football League World exclusively revealed back in April that he was looking to bring the player to St. Andrew’s in the summer.

Now, it appears the deal is at a very advanced stage and Graham will hope to play a crucial role for Bowyer’s side as Birmingham try to push on next season in what will be Bowyer’s first full campaign in charge.

The verdict

This is an excellent bit of business for Blues as Graham will provide real quality and pace down either flank, so to pick him up on a free is smart.

As well as that, he seems ideally suited to Bowyer’s style, because he wants his wingers to hug the touchline and to get crosses in the box, which Graham can do.

So, this is good news for Birmingham and it will be interesting to see who else comes in during the next month or so.
