Blackpool Supporters Trust have officially sponsored striker Jake Daniels for the 2022/23 campaign.

The teenage striker hit the headlines earlier this year when he became the first active male professional footballer to openly come out as gay. The 17-year-old was the first to do so since Justin Fashanu way back in 1990, and he received plaudits from the footballing world and beyond for his courage.

Daniels scored goals for fun in the youth team last season and was rewarded with a professional contract, prior to his senior debut towards the back end of the campaign - away to Peterborough United. He will look to kick on in the coming years, knowing he has the full backing of everyone at Bloomfield Road.

On the sponsorship, the Trust commented: "We are always proud to sponsor our players and are especially thrilled to sponsor Jake this year. Our club have provided him with exemplary support in recent weeks and now we are able to reciprocate. Hopefully, it shows how strong a family our fans and our club have become.

"BST are glad to support the club through player sponsorship yet again in 22/23. We are very pleased to sponsor a young player at the beginning of a promising career. It also enables us to show our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Blackpool Football Club have given the player great support and we are pleased to join them in doing so. As a Trust our role is to champion our club, our fans and our community."
