Manchester United are set to beat Arsenal to the signing of Ruben Neves, according to reports.

The Wolves midfielder has been linked with a move to the Gunners this summer with the Midlands club setting the asking price at £35million.

However, United are now ‘ahead’ of their London rivals for the 24-year-old’s signature according to talkSPORT.

Neves has been a vital part of the Old Gold’s squad over the last four seasons, making over 175 appearances during that period.

The arrival of the midfielder would be an interesting one considering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan to change to a 4-3-3 formation next season.

With rumours suggesting that Paul Pogba is a key target for Paris Saint-Germain in this transfer window, and Eurosport’s Dean James claiming Bruno Fernandes would be ‘very keen’ for his fellow Portuguese midfielder to join him at Old Trafford, Neves would slot perfectly alongside the United number 18.

The centre-midfield position is just one of several being identified as an area to strengthen for Solskjaer. A centre-back, winger and right-back are all on the Norwegian’s list, too.

Jadon Sancho’s move to Old Trafford is imminent with a £72.9m move already agreed with Borussia Dortmund for the England forward, while United are also looking to add Kieran Trippier and Raphael Varane to their defensive options.

On the other hand, competition for Jesse Lingard is also heating up. The 28-year-old is a target for West Ham, the club he spent the second-half of last season on loan with and scored nine goals in 16 appearances.

According to the Sun, Everton are now interested in signing the England international this summer.

The Toffees, who are managed by Rafa Benitez, are looking to add more depth on the wings and see the United number 14 as a good option.

However, the Spaniard might have to look at other targets with Solskjaer saying Lingard is in his plans for the new campaign.

The 48-year-old made the comment after the club’s 2-1 win over Derby County on Sunday in which Lingard played the second-half of the game.
