S&P 500 Falls Into Bear Market Territory From January High
The term "bear market" refers to a value loss of 20 percent or more from the most recent high. On May 20, after the index fell below 3,837, the S&P 500 was trending to close at just over 20 percent down from the bull market high on Jan. 3.
