Italy’s birthday plunged further during Covid-19 pandemic, Rome adopts family-helping measures

Italy has long suffered from one of the lowest birth rates in Europe, but the situation has reached a new low during the Covid-19 pandemic, with couples more than ever delaying baby conception. Mario Draghi’s government has now announced new policy to try and reverse the trend, with a package to support new families and working mothers, amid fears of a plunge in tax revenues and an ageing population.
