London is a city often criticised for being a concrete jungle where green spaces are few and far between.

Everyone who lives in they city will know that the reality is worlds away from this stereotype - in fact, the capital has a number of beautiful parks and green spaces.

Deciding which park to visit next can be a challenge, but a new survey may assist you in narrowing down which of London’s parks is best.

A vote earlier this year up and down the country as part of the 2021 People’s Choice Awards saw one London park join the esteemed top 10 list.

The list was formed as part of the Green Flag Award scheme, the international quality standard for parks and green spaces, which is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year.

During October, the public were invited to vote for their favourite park and more than 32,000 did just that.

It may surprise you to discover that London’s largest and most central parks, including Hyde Park, St James’ Park and Green Park, didn’t make the top spot - in fact, only one of London’s parks made the list.

Victoria Park in east London was voted as one of the nation’s favourite parks, according to the survey.

The park in Tower Hamlets certainly does have it all - expansive green lawns, a large pond full of wildlife and a number of trendy cafes.

Not only this, Victoria Park has been used for a number of large music festivals over the years, including All Points East and Field Day.

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said: “Thanks to the tireless work of our amazing staff and volunteers, Victoria Park is a great place for recreation, sports, play, and relaxation and has yet again proven, by the public, to be the jewel in the borough’s crown.

“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for Victoria Park and I am delighted that it has been recognised in the Green Flag People’s Choice Awards, for the eighth year running.”

Commenting on the result, International Green Flag Award Manager Paul Todd congratulated the ten "worthy winners".

He said: “The Green Flag Award includes some of the country’s best-known and iconic parks as well as community green spaces and university campuses.

"To be voted one of the nation’s favourite parks is a real achievement and testament to all the hard work done by the thousands of parks staff and volunteers up and down the country who work tirelessly to make their parks fantastic places that everyone can enjoy.”

Victoria Park sat alongside a number of other beautiful parks up and down the country, including Cassiobury Park in Watford and the University of Essex Wivenhoe Park in Colchester.
