Colm Meaney returns to Barrytown in three part RTE series

A new three-part TV series is set to debut on RTE later this month which will explore and celebrate the famous Barrytown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle.

Guided by Colm Meaney, viewers will revisit the fictional town which was the set of popular novels and successful films The Commitments, The Snapper, and The Van.

The actor, who played head of the family Jimmy Rabbitte Snr in the films, will be joined by the likes of The Snapper and The Van director Stephen Frears, and author Roddy Doyle as he takes a strolls down memory lane.

Across the three-part series, Colm Meany will explore ‘the world of Barrytown: the people who populated it, the real lives that inspired it, and those who helped create it. He peers through this fictional window into a brief moment in the history of modern Ireland: a time when the fortunes of the country and its citizens were changing utterly.’

The series Back To Barrytown will begin on Sunday, May 16.

RTE will follow up with a screening of The Commitments on May 22, and The Snapper on May 29.
