Up until a few years ago, if people were talking about Hard Seltzers, many Irish people wouldn’t know what you were on about. However, nowadays you can’t walk down the booze aisle in the supermarket without being faced with shelves of them.

For those who still don’t know what a Hard Seltzer is, it’s defined as being made from carbonated water, alcohol, and often fruit flavourings. That’s it. Simple as.

With so many available this summer, we decided to share some of our favourite hard seltzers to help you make the most of the must-have drink this summer.

WhiteClaw

The macdaddy of all hard seltzers is arguable WhiteClaw. The drink is one of the biggest sellers Stateside and made the journey to Ireland last summer.

There are four flavours available in Ireland: Black Cherry, Natural Lime, Raspberry and the new addition, Mango and they cost €2.50 per can from all major retailers.

While the Swedish company is pushing its new summer campaign Swedish Tastes That Translate for their range of ciders, they also have a line of hard seltzers to tickle your tastebuds.

The hard seltzers come in Black Cherry, Passionfruit and Mixed Berries flavours and are vegan and gluten free to boot. Each 330ml can only costs €2 so you won’t have to break the bank to quench your summer thirst.

Supermarkets are also hopping on the hard seltzer train with their own range of beverages. Keeping with the crisp, summer flavours, their range includes Black Cherry, Lemon and Lime and a Raspberry and Rhubarb flavour.

They’re only €2 per can and, if that wasn’t enough, are less than 80 calories too.

Mikkeller

It isn’t just supermarkets and cider companies getting in on the action but the Danish brewery Mikkeller has a range of hard seltzers. Their flavours are a little different to some others on the market, with Melon and Pineapple being two and the more commonly found Mango and Passionfruit completing the range.

You can find the hard seltzers in Craft Central near St Stephen’s Green or in Sweeney’s Off Licence for €3.95.

Topo Chico

From the Coca-Cola company, Topo Chico hard seltzers come in three flavours — Tangy Lemon Lime, Tropical Mango and Cherry Acai — that launched in Ireland in late 2020 and a four-pack of the cans sell for €10 a box.

The new drink is inspired by the 125-year old Topo Chico sparkling mineral water brand, which was a popular mixer for bartenders and mixologists in the US and Latin America.

Smirnoff

Smirnoff has also dived into the world of hard seltzers and recently launched their newest addition, Mango & Passionfruit flavour. It joins the two previously released flavours Smirnoff Seltzer Raspberry and Rhubarb and Smirnoff Seltzer Orange and Grapefruit.

The 250ml cans are best served chilled or over ice in a glass and you can find them in stores nationwide retailing for €10 for a four-pack or €3 per individual can.
