The former wife of ex-Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given is in a sticky court battle with her ex-fiance over an Aston Martin and an engagement ring.

Now, if there is one thing Judge Judy taught us is that the engagement ring is his until you are legally married, but sure what do we know?

Jane Given seems to think differently as she claims the £300,000 ring and the luxury British sports car were in fact 'gifts' from her ex-lover, Andrew Ralph.

The pair began a relationship in 2018 after splitting from the father of her two children, Shay Given five years earlier.

Despite Jane breaking off the engagement and ending their relationship she feels the ring and the car belong to her.

Businessman Andrew Ralph proposed to the model a year later with a £300,000 engagement ring and bought her an Aston Martin so they could have 'matching cars'.

However, Jane Given ended the relationship in 2020 and Andrew is now suing for the return of the luxury car and ring claiming they were wedding gifts.

As the wedding did not go ahead, he feels he is entitled to the expensive items back thus landing them in a legal battle where their private messages will be used as evidence.

According to the DailyMail Mr Justice Freedman, said in a preliminary hearing at London's High Court, he had seen 'various WhatsApp messages' between the former couple 'which are said to be informative of the intention of the parties'.

He said that Jane Given 'relies upon' the WhatsApp messages 'as evidence' that the car and ring were handed over to her as 'an absolute gift' and cannot be reclaimed by her ex.

Unless the pair can reach an agreement outside of court, it will be the Judge making the decision after a costly legal battle.
