A woman who had tested positive for coronavirus was found outside posting a letter by Gardai.

Officers spoke to a ‘middle-aged couple’ in the south of the country as part of the lockdown protocol currently in place across the country.

The woman who was in the car informed the officers that she had recently been diagnosed with COVID-19, but wanted to post a letter.

A Garda spokespersons said: ‘Despite this diagnosis, they were travelling to post a letter.

‘They were immediately directed to return to their residence to self-isolate in accordance with HSE and Government guidelines.

‘Self-isolation means staying indoors and completely avoiding contact with other people.

‘Advice from the HSE. You will need to self-isolate:

  • if you have symptoms of coronavirus
  • before you get tested for coronavirus
  • while you wait for test results
  • if you have had a positive test result for coronavirus
  • if you have any cold or flu-like symptoms, such as sore throat, runny nose, blocked nose, cough or wheezing

‘Most people with coronavirus will only have mild symptoms and will get well within weeks. Even though the symptoms are mild, you can still spread the virus to others.’
