A man was seriously wounded in a shooting at a busy Lidl store yesterday.

Children witnessed the attack in West Dublin which left the victim, who is in his 40s, with stomach and body wounds.

Bank holiday shoppers were left terrified after a man in his 40s was shot several times in the stomach and body as he was walking into the bustling supermarket.

Sinn Fein’s Paul Donnelly said: “It’s all down to drugs. We need a response from agencies to look at how we prevent young people from joining these gangs in the first place.

“Drug gangs are grooming young children from as young as ten, and before you know it, they are being given guns to shoot people.”

The Sinn Fein councillor called for a legislative response that addresses the grooming of children into gangs.

He paid tribute to the “phenomenal” response from gardai to the recent violence in the area – but that they need more resources if they are to continue their strong presence in the area.
