The Duchess of Cambridge has gained some new canine friends.

On Tuesday afternoon, thousands of fans welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they arrived in Cumbria.

The 37-year-old met some precious pooches as the pair were greeted by English springer spaniels Max, Paddy and Prince Harry (the dog) in Keswick.

The royals were first introduced to therapy dog Max and his owner Kerry Irving, 54, a mental health campaigner, at a Buckingham Palace garden party last month.

Kate wore her hair up in a neat pony tail while donning a khaki jacket, black skinny jeans and some lace up boots.

The visit to Keswick was the first stop during William and Kate’s busy afternoon of royal engagements.

Mental health campaigner Kerry Irving, his wife and their three dogs Max, Paddy and Prince Harry, were among the few to chat with the pair.

Following a serious car accident, Mr Irving became a respected mental health campaigner, and says his dog Max saved his life.

William and Kate are known to be dog lovers, as the two own an English cocker spaniel.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge later visited a traditional fell sheep farm, where they will have the opportunity to experience sheep shearing.

They will also meet members of the Cumbrian farming community, and learn about some of the key challenges farmers are facing.

William and Kate are parents to Princess Charlotte, four, Prince George, five, and Prince Louis, one.

The couple share one dog, an English Cocker Spaniel named Lupo aged 9.
