The four cases of the coronavirus in the west of Ireland confirmed on Wednesday night have presented the HSE with ‘a significant tracing challenge’.
As of Thursday, March 5, there are nine confirmed cases of the coronavirus on the island of Ireland, including six cases in the Republic of Ireland and three in Northern Ireland.
All nine cases have resulted from travel to Northern Italy, currently the European region worst impacted by the coronavirus.

According to HSE CEO Paul Reid, who addressed reporters on Thursday, the four people diagnosed with the coronavirus in the west of Ireland have been placed in infection control environments.
Mr Reid said the four cases presented ‘very significant tracing challenges’, and that contact tracing is continuing although ‘very good progress was made overnight’.
