McGregor released from jail after arrest for smashing fan's phone

UFC star Conor McGregor was arrested Monday evening in Miami after being accused of smashing a fan's phone, according to the Miami Herald's David Ovalle. He was later released from a Miami-Dade County jail Monday night after posting a $12,500 bond, according to ESPN's Ariel Helwani.

McGregor is being charged with felony strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor criminal mischief, according to Miami Beach police, per Ovalle.

The incident took place outside the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel at around 5 a.m. on Monday when the fan attempted to take a photo of McGregor, according to the arrest report. McGregor then allegedly slapped the phone out of the fan's hand and stomped on it multiple times.

McGregor was arrested later Monday evening after detectives reviewed surveillance video of the incident.

"Last evening, Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation," read a statement from the fighter's lawyer, according to Helwani.

The Irishman spent the past week completing court-ordered community service as part of his punishment for sparking a backstage melee at the Barclays Center last April. He was ordered to complete five days of community service and undergo anger management evaluation.
