- Classic 500 to be discontinued next

- Could be due to low sales numbers

Royal Enfield has taken the Bullet 500, Thunderbird 500 and Thunderbird 500X off the official website’s booking section suggesting that the two models have been discontinued in India.

According to dealer sources, the manufacturer has also discontinued the Classic 500. However, due to availability of existing stocks and more demand as compared to the Bullet and Thunderbird 500, Royal Enfield is still accepting bookings for the motorcycle. The main reason for the discontinuation could be due to the falling demand of the 500cc range which reflected in the domestic as well as export sales numbers.

It could also be due to the introduction of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 which offer a better overall package at a premium of around Rs 40,000 over the 500cc models. Nevertheless, the gap that has been created between the 350cc and 650cc motorcycles is expected to be filled by the new-gen Classic and Thunderbird models that have been spotted testing recently.

In other news, Royal Enfield will soon launch the 2020 Himalayan in the country which is likely to come with new paint schemes, updated mechanicals and a BS6-compliant engine.
