Bollywood filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, who is gearing up for the release of his pet project 'Brahmastra', is also the best friend of his lead stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. However, there was a time when the now-married couple hid their relationship from Ayan.

During a recent interaction, Ranbir revealed that they hid their relationship from the director, fearing he might freak out. "Alia, Ayan and I have spent so much time making 'Brahmastra' that so much has changed in our lives over the years. In these years, whenever we met, Ayan would always be obsessing over 'Brahmastra'. After every conversation, Ayan would always be directing our attention towards 'Brahmastra'. At one point, when Alia and I had started dating, we couldn't even tell Ayan that we'd started seeing each other, fearing that he would freak out," Ranbir shared.

To that, Ayan quipped, "I had a very mature reaction when Ranbir broke the news to me. I had to be at my best behaviour with my close friends."

Alia too added that she was already quite close to Ayan, even before she began dating Ranbir. Ayan added, "Alia and I hit it off the first time we met. We were always on the same wavelength and we were really close even before she and Ranbir started getting close."

Meanwhile, 'Brahmastra' is all set to hit the silver screens on September 9, after being in the making for five long years. The film also features Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy.

If reports are to be believed, then Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone will be seen in cameo roles as well.
