- Rose hip has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Thus, it can prevent or treat inflammatory diseases and boost your immune system. Rose hip is a source of ascorbic acid, phenolic compounds and carotenoids. It contains one of the highest amounts of vitamin C among fruits and vegetables and all these components contribute to antioxidant and inti-inflammatory properties of rose hip.
- Rose hip has anti-obesity properties. Recently, the anti-obesity effects of rosehip have been clarified by in vitro and clinical studies. In a clinical trial about daily intake of rosehip extract it was demonstrated that abdominal total fat area, abdominal visceral fat area, body weight and body mass index decreased significantly in a group taking rosehip extract.
Possible Side Effects
- The safety of rose hip extract has been demonstrated by some toxicity test, which showed that no serious adverse events were caused by the extract. However, care should be taken when patients who are receiving medication also use rosehip. For these patients it is always recommended to consult with their healthcare practitioner before starting taking rose hip extract.
- Due to the lack of studies, rose hip should not be used at certain stages of life, such as childhood, pregnancy and puerperal period.
