Motorola Frontier with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC, 200MP triple-camera setup could launch soon
Motorola is rumoured to be working on a new ultra-premium flagship smartphone. Codenamed Frontier, the phone is expected to launch in June or July this year. The USP of the flagship Android smartphone from Motorola will be its processor and camera hardware.
Lenovo's General Manager for the Mobile Phone Business, Chen Jin, has been teasing the launch of a new Motorola flagship smartphone for quite some time. The latest teaser on Weibo suggests that Frontier could arrive soon. Jin put up a post on Weibo asking users which upcoming Motorola smartphone they are looking forward to. The post was uploaded using an unknown Motorola device. The rumour mill suggests that Jin could be hinting at the launch of the Frontier.
Previously, the company teased its new 125W charging solution, which is rumoured to debut with the Frontier smartphone. The phone is also expected to debut with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC, which could launch in May 2022. Qualcomm is expected to confirm the same in the coming days. The new Snapdragon flagship mobile platform will sit above the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and come with certain improvements in the performance and efficiency department.
The Frontier is also said to sport a 6.7-inch 144Hz OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. It will have a curved screen with a hole-punch cutout at the top centre. On the back, there will be a triple-camera setup. According to rumours, the phone will feature a 200MP main camera sensor, along with a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP portrait/ telephoto camera. For selfies, the hole-punch cutout will house a 60MP front camera. It will come with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The device is also said to pack a 4500 mAh battery under the hood.
Other than support for 125W fast charging, the Frontier will also support 50W wireless charging. It will not be a surprise if Motorola launches the phone as the Edge 30 Ultra in global markets. We will have to wait for a few more days to get some official details about the device.
