New Delhi: In a one-time offer, Karnataka has announced 50 per cent rebate on fines for pending traffic challan cases. This offer ends on February 11. The order was issued by Under Secretary Transport Department Pushpa VS.

The Karnataka state government announced the move of offering 50 per cent discount in an effort to clear backlogged cases. Recently, it was suggested that steps needs to taken to address the issue at a meeting chaired by the Karnataka Legal Services.

"Outstanding Traffic Fines amount with 50% discount has been operationalized. Request all to please utilize this opportunity & pay all your pending traffic fines. You can view and pay fine @ KarnatakaOne website, #PayTM App or by visiting the nearest #Traffic Police stations," the Bengaluru Traffic Police said in its official Twitter handle.

Dr. M.A. Saleem, Special Commissioner (Traffic), Bengaluru, said over 80 per cent cases were pending across the state. There were over two crore e-challan cases which may total up to a penalty of Rs 500 crore in the city, Saleem was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
