India's Income Tax department launched its new income tax e-filing portal on Monday which comes with a lot of new features and is expected to give a smarter and smoother Income Tax Return (ITR) filing experience to the users. Announcing the launch of its new portal, the income tax department tweeted, "We proudly present to our valued taxpayers, the new e-Filing portal http://incometax.gov.in. Designed with your convenience in mind, the portal offers features to make your e-filing experience smoother, simpler & smarter. You Come First, Always!"

Now that the new portal is up and running, many are wondering how to use the new website and what are the new features that it entails. If you are a taxpayer, then here is a guide that will help you learn to use the new website in the simplest way possible.

Simple steps to how to use the new website

Once you go to the new portal's home page, here are the steps which explain how you can use the new portal before logging in-:

Step-1-On the top of the page you can click on the applicable tabs to view guidance on how to file an ITR, applicable forms, deductions, refund status and much more.

Step-2-Once you scroll down the page you can view services like e-verification, link Adhar, know your refund status and ITR status.

Step-3- Further you can scroll down to access the user-friendly section that has interactive videos to guide you through the website along with the user manual and FAQs.

Now to avail all the services offered by the new website, you need to register with the new portal. Once you log in you get access to various services like-:

1. E-file helps you fill out forms, file returns and e-pay your tax.

2. Authorised partner tab lets you explore your e-return intermediary and chartered accountant.

3. On the new website under the services menu you get services like rectification, refund/reissue etc.

4. Other than that, you can also see the pending action menu that lets you complete any unfinished proceeding and the grievance menu that helps in speedy resolution of any problem.

New features that the e-filing portal offers

The new e-portal has come up with some features to ensure hassle-free ITR filing. These features include-:

  • Role-based user-friendly dashboard
  • Secure and multiple options to login
  • Chatbot to answer all queries
  • Multiple methods to pay taxes on the portal
  • Enhanced help section with user manuals and videos
