Comparing the forthcoming general elections with 1977 post-emergency elections, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the 2019 elections will be a historic moment for the nation. He was addressing booth workers' 'Shakti Kendra' gathering in central Mumbai on Tuesday.

Fadnavis said that if a mixed government comes to power, it will be a historic mistake. "There are historical moments and historical mistakes. India will soon be the world's youngest country. Under Modiji's leadership, we are growing rapidly as an economy. If there is a 'khichdi' government in the country, this opportunity will be lost and the impact will be felt not just for five years but the next hundred years," he said.

Fadnavis also attacked the Congress and the mahagathbandhan during his speech. "Despite the Supreme Court saying there is no scam in Rafale, Congress comes up with lies every day. Only thieves are scared of a chowkidar," he added.

Calling the mahagathbandhan a group of regional leaders who do not have appeal beyond their states, Fadnavis targeted Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar.

"The NCP has never crossed a double-digit number in their history and still with these numbers they dream of having a prime minister from their party. PM's post has become a game of musical chair."

Bharatiya Janata Party's city unit chief Ashish Shelar also took a dig at Congress leaders saying that they are scared to contest. "Priya Dutt has announced that she will not contest the elections. Milind Deora says he is not in the mood for contesting elections. Sanjay Nirupam wants to run away. This is what the condition of Congress is like. They are scared to even fight the elections," Shelar said.
