22:31 PM IST: Emirates airline to halt all passenger flights over virus

Long-haul carrier Emirates says it will suspend all passenger flights beginning Wednesday over the new coronavirus outbreak. The decision is a major one for the Dubai-based, government-owned airline built on linking the East to the West. A statement from the carrier quoted Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, its chairman and CEO, as saying: "The world has literally gone into quarantine due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This is an unprecedented crisis situation in terms of breadth and scale: geographically, as well as from a health, social, and economic standpoint."

22:27 PM IST: Pak PM Imran Khan rules out complete lockdown, says it will create chaos

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday ruled out complete lockdown in the country, saying it will create chaos and urged people to self-quarantine to curb the spread of the coronavirus, which has so far claimed four lives and infected over 700 people in the country. Addressing the nation as cases of the novel coronavirus surged across the country, Khan reiterated that lockdown will create chaos as more than 25 per cent people were living below the poverty line and their lives will be shattered. He said the situation in Pakistan does not call for a lockdown yet.

21:39 PM IST: J&K govt considering doorstep ration distribution amid coronavirus scare

The Jammu and Kashmir government is considering doorstep ration distribution to the consumers in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan said on Sunday. In this regard, the advisor directed all the deputy commissioners to work out a plan for doorstep distribution of ration and other essential commodities to the consumers so that long queues and large gatherings at ration depots could be avoided. All the DCs have been directed to send their plan within three days to the Kashmir divisional commissioner for further course of necessary action. (PTI)

Curfew under section 144 of the CrPC was imposed in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad from 9pm on Sunday to 5am on Monday in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak. With this order, no person can move on foot or by vehicle or stand or roam around any road in the city, and the persons violating it will be punished under section 188 of IPC, Pune police said. 21:15 PM IST: Rajasthan CM holds meeting with Army, IAF, other agencies to review coronavirus situation

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot held a meeting with senior officials of the Army, Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and other central agencies at his residence today to review the situation in the state with regard to novel coronavirus. He mentioned that things are presently under control but in case of need, the role of the Army and paramilitary forces will be significant.

1. All shops, commercial establishments workshops, godowns dealing with non-essential services will close

2. Labour industries will work at 50% of their strength on a rotation basis

Chennai in Tamil Nadu has been put under a lockdown in view of the rising cases of coronavirus till March 31. Essential services like medical stores, grocery, milk will remain open. Amma canteens will operate during the lockdown. Bars, pubs, gyms, clubs, parks, swimming pools will remain closed till March 31. Sanitisation work will continue. Chennai Metro services have been suspended. Inter-state public and private buses, too, have been suspended.

The Uttarakhand government imposed a lockdown till March 31 in the state on Sunday to contain the spread of the coronavirus, officials said. However, essential supplies such as medicines, food grains, vegetables etc. were kept out of the ambit of the lockdown, they added. All inter-state buses in the country have been suspended till March 31 in a bid to restrict the novel coronavirus outbreak.

14:30 PM IST: Instructions for all 75 districts with confirmed cases

The chief secretaries of all states where confirmed novel coronavirus cases have been reported have been instructed to extend restriction on movement of non-essential passengers till March 31. The decision was taken during a meeting of the principal secretary to the prime minister and the chief secretaries. At present, there are 75 districts across India where authorities have confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The Chandigarh administration has ordered the closure of all non-essential establishments including offices, schools, colleges, factories and business till March 31. In addition, all public transport has also been suspended until the end of the month. Only essential services such as shops dealing in medicine, vegetables and ration will be allowed to remain open.

The Western Railways (WR) has declared that all suburban trains in Mumbai will halt operations from Midnight on Sunday till March 31 as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19 in the state.

14:00 PM IST: Faridabad administration orders closure of factories, pubs, gyms 

The district administration in Faridabad has ordered closure of all gyms, swimming pools, spas, pubs, bars, night clubs and restaurants until further notice owing to the Covid-19 outbreak.

All factories in Faridabad have also been asked to close for the time being.

13:50 PM IST: Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu extend Janta Curfew till 5 am on Monday 

The Principal Secretary of Jharkhand has issued an order asking police and local administration to ensure that the Janta Curfew is extended till 5 am on Monday morning.

Similarly, the Tamil Nadu government has also extended the Janta Curfew till 5 am on March 23.

13:30 PM IST: Sydney-return deboarded from train, bus full of Indians from Gulf screened in Telangana 

A bus with a majority of Indians who recently returned from overseas was stopped by authorities at the Telangana-Maharashtra border on Sunday morning. The Volvo bus on its way from Mumbai airport to Hyderabad was halted in the Sangareddy district. The bus driver said that as many as 40 passengers who recently returned to India from the Gulf. At present, stamps have been put on the passengers' hands and they have been ordered to self-quarantine at their respective homes after a thermal check revealed normal body temperature.

In another case which has come to light from Telangana where a passenger who arrived in Hyderabad from Sydney on Saturday night has been detained for violating the home quarantine order. The passenger was deboarded from the AP Sampark Kranti Express from Kachiguda Hyderabad to Nagpur at the Bhongir railway station on Sunday morning.

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanswamy has ordered the imposition of section 144 of CrPC in the union territory. "All essential Govt services will continue & shops selling essential items such as milk, food items, medicines, etc will remain open," he tweeted on Sunday.

13:10 PM IST: All passenger trains cancelled till March 31: Indian Railways 

The Indian Railways has decided to extend cancellation of all passenger trains till March 31 with the exception of Kolkata Metro services which will also be closed by the end of March 22. This will also include all originating long-distance Mail/Express and inter-city trains. Trains which had commenced their journey before 2 pm on March 22 will run up to their destinations.

A 24-year-old male in Telangana's Guntur has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 22. He arrived in India from London via Dubai and is now undergoing treatment in an isolation ward.

13:00 PM IST: 22 active cases in Rajasthan: State Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma 

The Health Minister of Rajasthan, Dr Raghu Sharma told India Today that more than 300 suspected cases of the novel coronavirus have been identified in the state. As many as 25 of these have been found to be positive, Dr Raghu Sharma said. He further added that 3 of these patients have been cured and the remaining 22 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across Rajasthan.

12:55 PM IST: Corporator in Telangana booked for violating Janta Curfew 

A municipal corporator has been arrested in Telangana for opposing the Janta Curfew on Sunday. It is being reported that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had ordered the Deputy General of Police (DGP) to initiate action against anyone found to be in violation of the 24-hour self-imposed curfew underway in Telangana. A complaint was filed against the corporator at Sangareddy Town Police Station.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has confirmed that 10 new confirmed cases were reported in the state on Sunday with the total number of confirmed cases reaching 74.

12:22 PM IST: IIT-Delhi develops cheaper tests for Covid-19 

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi have developed a method to detect Covid-19 which can reduce the cost of the testing and make it affordable for large sections of the population. The National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune is in the process of validating this test on clinical samples.

Jitin Prasada, a leader with the Indian National Congress (INC) and his wife Neha Prasada have tested negative for the novel coronavirus. Their samples were sent for testing after they were found to be in attendance at a gathering along with singer Kanika Kapoor who recently tested positive. Prasada and his wife have put themselves under self-quarantine.

11:40 AM IST: Delhi Police files FIR against 4 gyms for violating closure orders 

The Delhi Police has registered four FIRs against gymnasiums who were found to be in violation of the Delhi government's order dated March 16. In the order, the government ordered the closure of all gyms and spas till March 31.

11:33 AM IST: Man who died in Patna on Saturday tests positive for Covid-19 

A 38-year-old man with a travel history of Qatar died at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Patna on Saturday morning. The deceased's samples have now tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

11:30 AM IST: Noida administration launches sanitation drive 

As many as 4,500 equipped workers from the Noida Authority's Public Health are in the process of currently sanitising Noida with sodium hypochlorite mixed water and bleaching powder in narrow streets.

The Punjab government has ordered a complete lockdown across the state till March 31. To that effect, only one person from each family will be allowed to move out for availing essential services and all commercial establishments have been ordered to close their businesses with the exception of those who sell essentials. In five districts of Punjab - Jalandhar,Patiala,Nawanshahar,Hoshiarpur and Sangrur- the lockdown will be in effect from 7 am on Sunday to Wednesday midnight.

The protest site in Delhi's Okhla area, Shaheen Bagh has been cleared by the protestors who decided to self-isolate in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. As of March 22, only five people are being allowed to continue their protest at Shaheen Bagh. Protestors even alleged that some unidentified miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at the protest site in the early hours of Sunday.

10:40 AM IST: Thailand reports 188 new cases

According to news agency Reuters, Thailand is now reporting 188 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand now stands at nearly 600.

A 56-year-old man in Maharashtra has been identified as the fifth Indian to die after being infected with the novel coronavirus. The man was admitted to the HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai on March 21. At present, Maharashtra has 74 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with the emergence of 10 new cases on Sunday.

As the world battles Covid-19, some Indian citizens are doing their part for the country. One such individual is Rakesh Chaudhary, a resident of Patna in Bihar. On Sunday, Chaudhary took to the streets of Patna distributing hand sanitizer to police and traffic personnel deployed in the city to enforce the Janta Curfew. "The entire country is fighting against Coronavirus. This is my way to fight it," Rakesh Chaudhary told a news agency.

The Andhra Pradesh government in an effort to tackle the countrywide outbreak of the novel coronavirus, issued orders on Sunday morning permitting almost 50 per cent of the workforce to attend office and to work from home on alternate weeks.

09:20 AM IST: Karnataka tackles Covid-19 on war footing 

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has ordered that the state's borders be closed in light of the Covid-19 outbreak. The state government has also postponed state board examinations for classes 10 and 12.

In addition, district-level task forces have been formed to monitor the spread of the novel coronavirus. A war room is also being prepared at the Balabrooie government guest house for the same purpose.

The Karnataka CM has urged people from the cities not to visit villages. BS Yediyurappa has also dedicated the 1,700-bed Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru to fight the ongoing pandemic.

Security personnel been stationed at suburuban railway stations in Mumbai are checking the identification cards of commuters at Mumbai's Dadar station. With the highest number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the country, the Maharashtra government has urged people not involved in providing essential services to observe the Janta Curfew.

In a tweet on Sunday morning, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "Abiding by @PMOIndia @narendramodi’s call for #JantaCurfew let’s stay indoors. Only by collective action can we contain the virus. #IndiaFightsCorona."
