Indian Navy's biggest exercise 'Milan', scheduled to be held this month in Visakhapatnam, was called off in the wake of coronavirus outbreak threat.

Sources said that Milan has been indefinitely postponed.

Invites were sent to 41 countries for participation. China was not among the countries invited.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak around the world 

India had sent invitations to Indonesia, France, Mozambique, Sudan, Israel, Qatar, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Somalia, Kenya, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Myanmar, New Zealand, USA, Tanzania, Comoros, Maldives, Brunei, Philippines, Japan, UK, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Mauritius, Cambodia, Singapore, South Korea, South Africa, Kuwait, Iran, Madagascar, Bangladesh, Russia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Bahrain, UAE, and Seychelles.

This was the first time when so many countries would be participating, if the exercise is organised again, in the drills as India looked at expanding its Naval diplomacy in the wake of the growing Chinese presence in the Indian Ocean Region.

The event, held biennially, is the biggest since the exercise started in 1995 when only four navies participated with India.
