Sea of Marmara 'sea snot' outbreak threatens marine life and fishing trade

Turkey's recent outbreak is believed to be the biggest in history and is causing chaos for local communities after a previous outbreak 14 years ago. The sludge forms when sea algae is overloaded with nutrients by warmer temperatures and polluted water. Turkey's Environment Ministry said the "sea snot" was a serious problem and that a 300-strong team was assessing the issue as the nation remains the only member of the G20 not to have formally endorsed the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
