Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said his aim is to try and provide 10 lakh jobs for the people of Bihar, as was promised by his deputy Tejashwai Yadav of RJD. He said his government will try to create jobs in the state departments and outside, and take the employment number to 20 lakh.

"We are together and we have this concept of 10 lakh jobs. We will do it. I would say, we shall be aiming for 20 lakh jobs. We will make efforts to achieve this target through both government and private sectors," he said during his Independence Day speech.

Soon after, Bihar Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said the chief minister has made the historic announcement of providing 10 lakh jobs and this number will be increased to 20 lakh jobs. "Putting an end to unemployment has been one of the major agendas for us," he said. Tejashwi also said that there can be a no bigger issue today than job creation and today's announcement should "silence those who were questioning what happened to my promise".

Tejashwi Yadav in the run-up to assembly elections last year had promised to provide 10 lakh government jobs to the people of the state if the RJD came back to power. He had lost the elections. However, Tejashwi returned to power after Nitish Kumar dumped the BJP and joined hands with the RJD.

After Tejashwi became the deputy CM, the BJP reminded him of his promise and said he should tell the nation when he is going to issue the notification for the government jobs.
