BJP and Congress workers clashed at Pratapgarh on Saturday where BJP MP Sangam Lal Gupta was assaulted and his vehicle was damaged.

Sources said the area had a large number of Congress members, who chased and assaulted BJP workers. After the initial ruckus, several vehicles of BJP MP Sangam Lal Gupta were damaged by the party workers.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari, MLA Rampur Khas and leader of Vidhan Mandal Dal, UP, Aradhana Mishra, were made the chief guests at a health fair from 2pm in Pratapgrah's Sangipur on Saturday. After their session, BJP MP Sangam Lal Gupta was made the chief guest from 3pm.

BJP MP Sangam lal Gupta has accused Congress workers of misbehavior. He said the Congress workers had launched a deadly attack on him and his party workers.

Referring to the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said strict action will be taken against the accused.

BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said: "Congress is now like 'extinguished diyas' in Uttar Pradesh and that is why they are committing violent incidents out of desperation, but we will not tolerate such incidents and expect the administration to take strict action."
