Kalyanaraman, a member of the Tamil Nadu BJP working committee, was arrested by the Chennai Police on Saturday for cyber harassment via 'derogatory' remarks on Twitter.

Dr Senthilkumar, Member of Parliament from Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu and a member of ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, filed a complaint against Kalyanaraman along with advocate Maa Gopinath of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi.

The police also received complaints against BJP's Kalyanaraman for his allegedly abusive tweets about former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi and actor-doctor Sharmilla.

The police arrested him on the basis of these complaints. A case has been registered against him under sections 153(a) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth) and 505(2) (promoting enmity or ill will) of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier this year, Kalyanaraman was arrested for his remarks at a BJP election rally against the Muslim community and Prophet Mohammed. He was also arrested in 2016 for similar comments.
