Delhi reports less than 100 new Covid cases after 10 months, govt orders resumption of surgeries

For the first time in ten months, Delhi has reported less than 100 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in a single day. Prior to this, less than 100 fresh cases of infection were recorded in a single day in the national capital on April 30 of last year.

According to the Delhi government's Health Department, 96 new cases of Covid-19 were reported from across the national capital in the last 24 hours. In the same period, another 212 patients recovered from the infection and nine more succumbed to it.

"Lowest 37 hospital admissions including 12 persons of outside Delhi," Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said in a tweet.

Delhi now has 1,501 active cases of the novel coronavirus. The recovery rate stands at 98.05 per cent while the percentage of active cases as against the total confirmed cases is 0.23 per cent. Similarly, the positivity rate is 0.32 per cent and the death rate as per the latest figures is 1.71 per cent.

The national capital has reported a total of 6,34,325 confirmed cases while 6,21,995 patients have recovered and 10,829 have died as a result of the infection.

In the past 24 hours, authorities in Delhi tested 29,855 samples for Covid-19. The national capital has tested a total of 1,04,95,046 samples for the infection to date.

Following the decline of new Covid-19 cases in the capital, the Delhi government on Wednesday issued orders to begin all surgeries and invasive procedures/IPD/OPDs and other medical services in all hospitals that fall under the ambit of its health department.
