A pod of dolphins was seen swimming around the Pamban Bridge construction site in the Gulf of Mannar on Wednesday. The dolphins were spotted in Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu.

The dolphins even jumped out of the water several times and raced with fishing boats in the area, much to the delight of fishermen and the general public.

The Gulf of Mannar is an eco-sensitive region which remains a safe haven for several rare species of sea creatures. Of the animals, dolphins are most often seen engaging with fishermen and the locals.

The gulf lies between the west coast of Sri Lanka and the southeastern tip of India in the Coromandel Coast region.
