Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in West Bengal, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to provide booster dose to senior citizens at their homes. West Bengal has been witnessing a hike in coronavirus cases and the Covid positivity rate has also gone up. The high Covid positivity rate has put the civic body officials on alert and has raised the concerns of health department.

Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said, "Covid-19 infection is increasing in West Bengal, including Kolkata. We have taken an initiative to increase the number of booster doses among senior citizens."

FREE BOOSTER DOSES IN KOLKATA

"We are offering free booster vaccines for those under 18 and those who are over 60. This time, Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided that they will provide booster vaccines to elderly people from door to door,"Firhad Hakim said.

"People who have received the first two doses of vaccine and have not taken the booster dose will get the shot at their doorsteps. We will give the vaccine," he added.

Asked about steps being taken by the civic body to deal with the continuous growth of Covid positive cases, TMC leader said, "I would urge the people of Kolkata to abide by the rules. Everyone must get a booster vaccine. But we have to be aware. "

WEST BENGAL COVID CASES

On Sunday, Bengal saw a sudden rise in Covid infections and the state logged 1,822 Covid cases in the last 24 hours. The Covid positivity rate stands at 14.10 per cent.

On Saturday, the state had registered 1,499 coronavirus infections with a daily positivity rate of 14.98 per cent.
