Two people were killed and one injured as five vehicles collided in Mumbai's Chembur late on Sunday night. The incident took place at the Amar Mahal junction area. Pre-monsoon rain had made the road slippery.

According to police officers, first, a bike slipped on the road and was hit by a dumper from the back. Later, it led to a series of collisions in which a total of five vehicles rammed into each other.

In the accident, an auto rickshaw was sandwiched between a bus and the dumper. Two women passengers were travelling in the rickshaw.

Mumbai Police has registered a case under Sections 279 and 304(A) to probe the incident.

A police officer said, "Five vehicles collided one after the other. The auto was in the middle and its driver, Subhash Bhind, 55 died on the spot. While one passenger, Sufiana Ansari, 25, died on the spot, the other passenger Mona Mirza, 55, is battling for life."

The officer added that the police have started a search operation for the dumper driver who escaped after the incident.
