Noida police on Tuesday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly running his car over a local mobile shop owner in Ecotech 1 area of Greater Noida.

The incident took place on Monday, following an altercation between the parties over Rs 300, police said.

The deceased, Nitin Sharma, was a 30-year-old shopkeeper who had been running his shop in the village for the last five years. He used to sell mobile phones and also booked train tickets for residents in the area.

According to a report published in the Hindustan Times (HT), the accused identified as Nakul Singh (30) is a resident of Gharbara village who along with his younger brother Arun Singh (28), allegedly killed Nitin Sharma after a quarrel over train ticket charges.

Nitin's uncle Meherchand Sharma revealed that nearly two weeks ago, Nitin had booked a train ticket to Jammu for the accused, Nakul Singh. But, later, Nakul cancelled the ticket, following which Sharma deducted Rs 300 as the ticket cancellation fee and refunded the rest of the amount to Nakul.

However, Meherchand Sharma alleges that Nakul and his brother Arun returned to his nephew's shop on Monday afternoon and demanded the cancellation fee of Rs 300, which led to a heated argument between the two.

Driven by anger, the two accused got into their Maruti Swift Dzire and deliberately crushed him under their car.

The two accused soon fled the spot and Nitin was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead by doctors.

Following the incident, Nitin's father Satveer Sharma lodged a complaint against the two accused at Ecotech 1 police station on Monday.

Vishal Pandey, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Greater Noida was quoted by HT as saying that based on the complaint, a case was registered against the two accused under IPC Section 302 (murder) and Section 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

It was on Tuesday that the city police received information about Nakul's movement on pushta road in Gharbara village, following which he was nabbed.

Sharad Kant, in-charge, Ecotech 1 police station was quoted by HT as saying that the accused was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, a search is being conducted for Nakul Singh's younger brother, Arun, who is the other accused in the case and is still on the run, police said.
