Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was dejected with his team's 33-run defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 despite him playing a valiant knock of 70 not out in their unsuccessful run chase in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Samson waged a lone battle but still couldn't take his team over the line as Rajasthan kept losing wickets at regular intervals during their 155-run chase at the Zyed International Stadium and ended up with a disappointing 121 for 6 in overs.

Sanson's knock was the only one of some significance as the rest flopped with Mahipal Lomror's 19 being the next-best score by an RR batsman. He kept his team's hopes alive but kept losing partners at the other end which lead to their downfall.

Samson therefore, rued the lack of partnerships during Rajasthan's innings which he thought was the main reason behind the loss.

"A target of 155 with the quality of batsmen we have, I thought it was chaseable but we lost too many wickets and weren't able to get any momentum in our chase.

"We had the batting to go after it. I think we will come back stronger in the next game. The pitch was not that slow. It was holding up, but if we had a few wickets in hand we could have got the over the line," Samson said after the match.

The Royals skipper then went on to add that the team management might look to make some changes in their playing XI for the next game.

"We might consider changes for the next game, but it is too early now. We have to remove all emotion before that," Samson said.

Rajasthan Royals dropped one place to sixth on the IPL 2021 table after the defeat with 8 points and will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai on September 27.

The Delhi Capitals meanwhile, reclaimed the top spot on the table with their 8th win from 10 games and will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next clash on September 28 in Sharjah.
