15:41 hrs IST: Rain stops play

The gloom continues and it has started spitting, the umpires have dragged the players off the field. Much needed respite for the South African batsmen, West Indies were right on top. We could be in for an extended period of delay here.

15:30 hrs IST: Markram departs

There comes the march and there comes the salute. Another short of a good length delivery, with extra lift. Markram tries to nudge it behind square, gets a feather and is gobbled out by Shai Hope. South Africa are under extreme pressure here, 2 wickets have fallen in the gloom

15:16 hrs IST: Amla departs

Short of a good length from Cottrell, it bounced on Amla who tried to ride it, but the ball takes the edge and flies to Chris Gayle who accepts the catch and shows the ball to the crowd. What scenes, not if you are in the South African camp! Salute, Sheldon.

15:03 hrs IST: Play begins

Quinton de Kock takes guard, the conditions are overcast, Sheldon Cottrell will run in with the new ball, there will be seam and swing on offer and this is the challenge for the South African openers.

14:47 hrs IST: South Africa playing XI

Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock(w), Faf du Plessis(c), Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Beuran Hendricks

14:46 hrs IST: West Indies playing XI

Chris Gayle, Shai Hope(w), Darren Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas

14:36 hrs IST: Jason Holder speaks

“We would have bowled first as well with this weather around. There is forecast for rain and it could be an overcast game throughout. We played two of the strongest sides early on and the guys are looking not to be negative because that will set them further down. It’s a long tournament. We’ve two changes - Aiden Markram is back and Beuran Hendricks is in as well.”

14:34 hrs IST: Jason Holder speaks

Holder: We’ll bowl first. Overcast conditions all around and rain is expected, so this is the right decision. No point on dwelling on past results and South Africa are in a difficult situation as well. Hopefully we can do better. Two forced changes - Andre Russell isn’t fit, so Darren Bravo is in. So is Kemar Roach.

14:32 hrs IST: TOSS

West Indies win toss and elected to field.

13:30 hrs IST: Key battles

Chris Gayle and Kagiso Rabada will go head-to-head in this fixture. This will be an interesting battle on the cards as the seamer has been in good form, while Gayle is in an explosive head-space.

13:15 hrs IST: West Indies predicted XI

West Indies will be looking to bolster their bowling attack some more and as a result, Kemar Roach can find a place in the playing XI. He will replace Carlos Brathwaite in the team. Here’s why

13:00 hrs IST: South Africa Predicted XI

Rassie van der Dussen may miss out. According to reports, the middle order batsman has sustained a a groin injury sustained during the game against India. If Van der Dussen is unfit, then Aiden Markram will be slotted at the number three position.

12:44 hrs IST: Battered South Africa, boisterous West Indies

Three matches, three losses, a spate of injuries, experienced campaigners in a rut, a captain who is jittery and a team which is falling around him. South Africa are battered and they will now face the swag and coolness of West Indies, a side which is playing with absolute freedom. Yes, there are concerns even in the Windies camp, but clearly their free spirit will be in stark contrast to the negativity in and around the South African camp. For starters, Faf du Plessis needs to rally his troops and convince them they are good enough and a win here might just get their campaign back on track.
