Lionel Messi to leave PSG? Conflicting reports emerge on Argentine's future amid Barcelona return talks
Lionel Messi achieved ultimate glory last month when he led the Argentine side to World Cup glory in Qatar as the South American giants beat France at the Lusail Stadium in a thrilling game which went to the penalty shootout after a roller coaster game that saw Kylian Mbappe score a hat-trick which went in vain.
The triumph in Qatar was the crowning glory moment of Messi's career and it was always going to be interesting to see what Messi does after it. His future is still in the air as his current two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain comes to an end this summer.
There is no clarity on his future as things stand with a contract yet to be signed. Barcelona-based twitch journalist Gerard Romero revealed that Messi will not sign a contract extension with PSG as he has made a U-turn on his initial decision after winning the World Cup. However, these reports were denied by French publication RMC, which maintains Messi will stay at the Parc Des Princes.
Related News |Messi does have an option of extending his contract by 1-year in his initial 2-year deal. Various media reports have stated that PSG are in talks to sign another two-year deal with one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Over the last few months, there have been murmurs of a possible return to Barcelona for Messi. The World Cup winner has also been strongly linked with a move to the United States of America (USA) with the David Bechham-owned Inter Miami, who play in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Messi joined PSG in 2021 after being unable to sign a new contract with Barcelona. Messi spent almost two decades with the Catalan Giants where he won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies. He has also won the prestigious Ballon D'or triumph 7 times.
